I am a software developer, so my job inclination brings me to write a lot using my keyboard. I've tried many switches over 14 years (when I bought my first mechanical keyboard) and at some point I knew that linear switches where what I wanted for the most natural feel and comfort while writing on my keyboard. I tried most types: Cherry Reds, Gateron Reds, Mily Yellows, Gateron Yellows, Cherry Black (which was my first linear switch), Gateron Black, Gateron Ink Black, Glorious Lynx Silent, Silver Speed...so far lubed and filmed Ink Black have been my n1 choice: smooth, thocky, stable and never an issue. I even went further installing a slightly harder spring to get the desired bounce while typing.
When I first heard of Oil Kings they felt like a minor upgrade over my work so I waited on them for a while...I waited and a couple of weekends ago finally had the time to clean and rebuild my keyboard adding these new switches: AMAZING. They're factory lubed and the consistency for a factory lubing is quite impressive: no scratchy keys, no squishy keys...it is all consistent and smooth! The stock springs have a bounce very similar to my modified Ink Blacks so I immediately felt like at home. What really impressed me is the stem, they're stable and firm so no need for filming either!
Overall I have to say that manual lubing and filming surely is the endgame for any switch but here the consistency and smoothness are so good out of the box that I don't know what the actual gain would be from such a job. Most important: they're still thocky af! They really sound great in my WOBKEY Rainy75!
