Lily58 FAQ

Can I change or upgrade the controllers on the R2G?
The MCU controllers on our R2G kits are baked onto the PCB. This means they are unable to be removed or upgraded.

Does the R2G support Choc switches?
No, currently we only have an MX version on the Lily58 R2G. A choc version is planned for the future.
We can offer can offer our assembly service for the Lily58 Choc hotswap kit.

Do you offer an assembly service?
Yes, details can be found on this page.

How many switches do I need?
This build requires 58 switches. All our switches are sold in pack of 10, so you would need 6 packs.

What keycaps can I use?
For MX builds, a good place to start would be our DSA split blank set.
Most standard 60%+ MX keycap sets will 'work' but you may end up with some miss-matched profiles and legends.

For Choc V1 builds we would recommend either MBK Glow (for RGB) or MBK Ergo (for non-RGB).

How do I flash my controllers?
Please see your specific controller page for more details. Just give send us a support message if you get stuck.

Should I socket my controllers and OLEDs.
If you are willing to take on the extra soldering, we will always recommend to socket your controller.
(Especially when using the Nice!Nano)

It means in the unlikely event your PCB or controller dies, you can swap them out or re-use them in new kits.

Excellent stuff!

Great item, and well assembled by the team. I would have appreciated some sort of idiot-proof link to info about the out-of-the-box firmware, but I figured it out in the end. Thank you!

Great kit and very helpful staff

This was my first attempt at building a keyboard and the first time I'd soldered anything. With the instructions on GitHub to hand and after watching a few youtube videos I managed to complete the build without any issues. The MB staff were really helpful when I had any questions. The kit was sent out with the wrong switch sockets (MX rather than choc), but MB were very apologetic and sorted this out very quickly. Will definitely be using them again if I decide to do another keyboard build.

Great quality PCB - slightly incorrect size spacer for Choc switches

Overall, this is a great quality, well designed PCB. My only issue was that the M2 spacers supplied by MB were the wrong size for the Choc variant that I ordered. I think they were 6mm, whereas they should be 4mm according to the docs: https://github.com/kata0510/Lily58/blob/master/Pro/Doc/buildguide_en.md#required-parts
Fortunately I had some spares that were 4mm and these fit well, so it was not a big deal for me.

Nice Kit

The kit is pretty nice. I purchased it with rainbow keys and the ProMicro controller (Rp 2040), for self-assembly.

I can really recommend it - I assembled it in about 3-4h. The thing I had trouble with initially was getting the software on it; the guide didn't go into detail my Rp2040 (but somehow still talked about a ProMicro). I eventually found out I had to use my own QMK installation, which then worked like a breeze, but it'd be great if that were documented better in the build guide (or did I just miss it?).

Overall it was a very nice experience, would do it again. If you're experienced with soldering, this is for you, otherwise I'd rather recommend the Lily58 Kit variant with pre-soldered parts.
