1. Driverless USB HID Protocol

The keyboard speaks USB HID (Human Interface Device) - the global, standard language built into virtually every operating system. The moment you plug it in via the USB-C port, the device instantly recognizes it as a standard keyboard without needing external drivers.

2. On-Board Storage

Traditional keyboards rely on background software running on your computer to handle custom keymaps. Our keyboards saves their layouts, layers, and macros directly onto the RP2040 chip's internal flash memory.

Vial is an open-source program used to customize mechanical keyboards in real time without needing to write code or constantly re-flash your keyboard's firmware. Think of it as the ultimate control panel for your keyboard.

On a traditional keyboard, the switches (the clicky mechanisms under the keycaps) are permanently soldered onto the circuit board. If a switch breaks or you want to try a different type, you have to melt the metal solder to get them out.

With a hotswap keyboard, special tiny sockets are pre-soldered onto the board for you.
